Missing or failing teeth can negatively impact your confidence and your daily life, including what you can eat, the way you look and even how you speak. Implants are a popular long-term solution that can restore your smile.
Dental implants are titanium posts fixed into the jawbone. The bone gradually fuses to the implant making it strong and secure, so it can function as a natural tooth. Implants are topped with a crown, matched to the shade, shape and size of your remaining teeth.
At Cowbridge Dental Specialists we provide a range of restorative dental treatments, also known as prosthodontics, depending on your individual needs.

Dental crowns can be a suitable treatment for patients who suffer with chipped or cracked teeth. They provide a long-lasting solution that prevents bacteria from entering the hole in the tooth and allows you to eat and drink normally. Designed to mimic the look, feel and function of real teeth, they can be an ideal solution for patients who have had root canal treatment, large fillings, or who have fractured, worn, decayed or discoloured teeth.
The dental crown procedure involves removing a significant portion of the existing tooth enamel so the crown can be securely fitted.
A dental bridge offers a fixed solution to replacing missing teeth by using a healthy tooth to anchor a false tooth in your mouth. Two or more crowns are fitted to the teeth either side of a gap, to support a false tooth suspended over the gum, ‘bridging’ the gap.
Composite bonding, also known as tooth bonding or dental bonding, can be an effective solution for minor damage, chips, cracks or gaps in teeth. A composite resin is attached to a tooth and shaped to restore its original appearance. The colour of the resin is matched to your teeth, for a natural look. Usually carried out in just one visit to Cowbridge Dental Specialists, composite bonding is a fast and effective way to fix minor cosmetic issues.
Dental implants are a long-term solution to replace one or more missing teeth. Titanium screws are fixed into the jaw, with a dental crown fixed on top to provide a natural looking tooth replacement.

Composite bonding lasts an average of 5 to 10 years before needing to be replaced. This will depend on individual cases and how well you look after your teeth. You should brush your teeth twice daily and floss at least once a day. We also recommend regular dental hygiene visits and you should keep up with routing dental checks.
You will need to have at least two visits to Cowbridge Dental Specialists for your dental crown treatment. The first will be for the preparation, impression, shade taking and fitting of the temporary crown and the second will be to fit your permanent crown. There will usually be around 2 weeks between appointments. We can give you more information at your initial free consultation.
How long your crown lasts depends on how well you look after it. The crown itself can’t decay, but decay can start where the edge of the crown joins the tooth. It is therefore important to keep this area just as clean as you would your natural teeth to prevent decay affecting the crown.
Partial dentures often have clasps that clip on to the teeth next to your denture and help keep it in place. Full upper dentures cover the roof of your mouth. A very thin layer of salive between your palate and the denture creates suction, which keeps it firmly in position. Full lower dentures are often more difficult to keep in place, as there is less support from your gums. With a little practice you will learn to balance your denture between your cheeks and tongue.
Brush, soak then brush again. Clean your dentures after every meal using a soft toothbrush and soap or toothpaste. You can soak them in a denture cleaning solution if you wish, to help remove any stains. Don’t let them dry out, leave them in a plastic box or glass of water overnight.
