Sara Hughes
Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry
Sara is a specialist in Paediatric Dentistry. She qualified from Cardiff University in 2011 and has undertaken dental core training in Paediatric Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
She undertook her specialty training in Paediatric Dentistry at the University Dental Hospital Cardiff, qualifying in 2020.
Sara has a particular interest in managing anxious patients and is trained in the use of inhalation sedation. This invaluable adjunct to care has enabled many anxious patients to successfully complete the dental treatment they require. Sara also provides specialist care for children and young people seen at the University Dental Hospital, Cardiff, the Children's Hospital for Wales and the Community Dental Service. She is the chair of the South Wales British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) branch and is actively involved in postgraduate education, delivering courses in dental trauma and behaviour management. She has been involved in the training of undergraduate dentists and is an educational and clinical supervisor for specialty trainees in Paediatric Dentistry.
Sara has published several scientific articles in the field of Paediatric Dentistry and has been highly commended for developing an all Wales Paediatric Dentistry guide for managing children with decay, as part of the BSPD outstanding innovation award.
